Bill Mackey (rt) with 2012 Hall of Fame inductee, Bill Suehs (lt), The Cloister, Sea Island, Georgia.
Bill grew up in Upper Arlington, Ohio and put himself through Boston University working as a tennis professional. He settled on a career in trust and estate banking. As a parallel to tennis, Bill started playing golf as a young man and it quickly became the love of his life, other that his wife Gretchen, of course. Gretchen is a much-loved FOG (Friend of Golfer) in the SGA.
For the past 29 years, Bill and Gretchen have lived on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. They have three children and nine grandchildren. Some special interests of Bill's are woodworking and furniture refinishing. Occasionally he helps Gretchen in her garden in the municipal plot on Hilton Head.
Basil and Gail Walker of Hilton Head referred Bill and Gretchen to the Senior Golfers of America. In 2014, they, along with Basil and Gail, hosted the entire SGA group in attendance at the Tournament of the South for dinner at their club, the Country Club of Hilton Head.
Bill and Gretchen have been to 27 SGA tournaments, and they especially enjoy attending SGA's events at The Cloister in Sea Island, Georgia and The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Their first event was in 2005 in Coronado, California. Bill has been a champion many times with the SGA.
Congratulations, Bill! The SGA loves you and Gretchen and are honored to have you as an SGA Hall of Fame member.
